Open House for new Grade 6 students (September 2012)

Just a reminder that our Middle School Open House is on Monday, January 30th at 7:00 pm in the multipurpose room. Students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend. We look forward to seeing you!

Ravens Rock Weekly Bulletin

We have decided to forego monthly newsletters for a weekly bulletin. We will be trying to email it on Thursdays but some weeks, it may be on Fridays. Also, we are posting them to the website under the Newsletter menu.

Electronic Callback System

As some of you may have noticed, we have implemented a new callback system at Rockheights this year. At the end of November, we started using a software product called Synervoice which will phone parent/guardian contact numbers if a student is absent without an excuse. To avoid these calls, please contact our callback line at 250-384-7127 by 9:15 am to report your student’s absence. (The callback line is available 24/7.)

School Closure During Inclement Weather

We are now approaching the season when inclement weather may affect the safety and welfare of students. In particular, snowy weather has the potential to cause school closure or some School District 61 services to be suspended.

During inclement weather, information about schools will be updated continuously on the Greater Victoria School District 61 website at www.rockheights.sd61.bc.ca.

Within the Greater Victoria School District, the Superintendent of Schools will provide media outlets with information about the status of our facilities and transportation services by 6:30 am.

REPORT CARDS

As outlined in the October newsletter, unless a resolution is accomplished, report cards may only include students' courses, teacher names and attendance. There may be no marks. Leadership students will be selling pizza every Wednesday, at the beginning of lunch only, for the entire school year - $2.50 per slice.

Salmon BBQ Feast

Mr. Boulding and Mr. Stevenson would like to express their appreciation and thank you to our staff, students, community members and parent volunteers for a wonderful celebration of our Seven Teachings that culminated in a Salmon Feast that was shared by all on Tuesday, May 31st.

We acknowledge the traditional territory of the Songhees and the Esquimalt Nations that we work and learn on. Thank you to our cooks, Mark, Jim, Ms. Anderson, student volunteers, and all the helping hands. We look forward to a exciting and active June.

Raven's Code

	The Raven's Code was established jointly by our students and staff. It has established the 3'Rs that we all strive to be (Respectful, Responsible, and Reflective). Both this poster, and the one below, are displayed throughout the school as a reminder of our common beliefs and expectations.
Here, the Raven's Code is specifically defined as to what Respectful, Responsible & Reflective behaviour looks like at Rockheights.

Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Donation

On Thursday, September 30th, the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Donation Fund generously donated $2,000 to our Hockey Skills Academy to help provide money for student bursaries. The Rockheights Hockey Skills Academy has benefitted from the generosity of not only the Esquimalt Fire Department, but also the Township of Esquimalt and the Victoria Police Department who have each contributed to supporting our students and families to participate in the program.
